Wood Fired Masonry Heaters
What are masonry heaters?
Masonry heaters, otherwise referred to as “Kachelofen” or “grundofen”, are wood burning heating systems known for their high operating efficiency, low emissions and deeply soothing radiant heat. No two masonry heaters are the same since they are each specifically designed, calculated and constructed to meet your homes unique aesthetic and heat requirements.
Masonry heaters are designed to burn a specific amount of wood every 8 to 24 hours and operate at temperatures exceeding 800 degrees Celsius. The energy from these high temperature burns is stored in the units large thermal mass and slowly radiates out for many hours after the fire has gone out.
How do they work?
Unlike conventional metal wood stoves which connect the chimney directly to the fire chamber, Austrian masonry heaters have several meters of channels (commonly known as heat exchange channels or flue gas channels) separating the fire chamber and chimney connection. This separation allows for maximum efficiency by removing the highest possible amount of heat from the flue gases and storing it into the units high thermal mass before continuing into the chimney.
Benefits of a Masonry Heater
-
Individually designed, calculated and built
-
Long lasting radiant heat
-
Involves no moving parts that produce noise or require electricity
-
High efficiency of over 80%
-
Regulates air humidity levels
-
Requires little attention, one or two fires a day can heat for up to 24 hours
-
Wood burning is a renewable, CO2(Carbon Dioxide) neutral form of heating
-
Wood heating is the cheapest form of heating
-
Masonry heaters are among the safest wood burning heating systems available
-
Creates very little pollution when compared to other wood burning systems
-
Does not burn and re-circulate dust. Good for people affected by asthma and other respiratory illnesses
-
Studies show radiant heat from masonry heaters helps with arthritis and depression
Complete Combustion
Each masonry heater has a custom designed fire chamber specific to the amount of wood required per firing. This allows us to increase the overall efficiency and lower emissions by ensuring a complete combustion
Automated Air Control Dampers
Each of our masonry heaters come standard with an airtight air control damper built into the door. Once the fire has burnt down to just embers the damper is shut tight and not opened again until the next fire in 8-24 hours,
Automated air control dampers are available which not only "shut down" the heater automatically for you but also increase the overall efficiency of the combustion by slowly reducing the combustion air as the temperatures decrease.
Information such as combustion temperature and stage of the burn is viewable by way of a WIFI connection or through an optional touch screen display.
